November, how on earth did you get here so quickly? These next few weeks until Thanksgiving are going to breeze by with the fallen leaves. You’re probably thinking about planning your holiday and there’s always a moment of panic to get the house ready just before. Instead, this year, I’m outlining a few steps you can take to get your house in top shape over these next few weeks so just before Thanksgiving you can focus on what matters – family & food!
Have Fresh Linens
Whether you have guests staying in your home for the holidays or only visiting for a day, you’ll want nice towels and linens available. Keep this in mind when out running errands – if you see some that you like or are on sale, pick them up!
Keep it Organized!
Been meaning to get that mail organizer? How is your coffee table looking? Time to get those catch all bowls, letter sorters, and storage boxes you’ve been putting off. I love to find these items at discount stores like TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Ross, etc. These are great places to add those accents to your home that also function.
Count your Servingware
Make sure you have enough plates & silverware! If you have done this before, you are probably covered but always double check. Maybe a plate or two broke last year that you had forgotten about. Don’t forget glasses and servingware as well! You don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen only to find you don’t have a tray to put the food on.
Check the Appliances
The Crockpot will be used constantly at Thanksgiving & Christmas, but is it in working order? I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve heard horror stories of people having their meals ready to go only to find an appliance breaks! Don’t forget to get your oven & stove serviced, even if it’s just for peace of mind.
Clean the Floors
Lastly (other than basic cleaning), you’ll want to get your floors or carpets professionally cleaned. It can truly change the room and make it feel brand new again. This is an added expense to the already expensive holidays but if you plan on it in advance, this can become your yearly professional cleaning.
